November Trip to Kambia
We have recently returned from an action packed few days in Sierra Leone. Having attended both traditional and Catholic weddings we also managed to squeeze in the building of a playground for the smallest children in the Simon Jen Masama Primary School as well as a visit to Bayande to check on the progress of our latest secondary school building project.
As ever the trip to Bayande was challenging with the road in a terrible state of repair. Although it is only approximately 18 miles from Kambia the journey was around an hour and a half each way and only accessible in a 4×4. We were however rewarded with the sight of our school buildings having roofs on them and with a unique design shared by our good friend Dan Jones of Orange Construction, these children will enjoy much more comfortable conditions than many schools in Sierra Leone. In fact with the addition of vaulted ceilings we think the school might actually be unique in the whole country!
